Dental Nurses

In conjunction with Chichester College, we have initiated a NVQ Level 3 in Oral Health for Dental Nurses.

The first course commenced in January 2003 with a second intake in January 2004. Anyone interested in putting their nurse forward for the January 2005 course should contact either

The 2005 course consists of a three hour teaching session either here at CMEC or at Chichester College, one evening per week, and plenty of ‘in house’ assessments. Chichester College is also running a course for anyone who would like to become an Assessor for their practice.

The following programme for this year's course will give interested candidates an idea of the topics they will be covering in 2005:-

DN02	Prepare and maintain environments and instruments for clinical dental procedures
DN01	Promote, monitor and maintain health and safety in the workplace
DN12	Offer information to individuals on the protection of their oral health and support them in doing so
DN15	Provide chairside support during the prevention and control of periodontal diseases and caries and the restoration
DN16	Promote people's equality, diversity and rights
DN14	Process dental radiographs and support their production
DN17	Promote communication with individuals where there are communication differences
DN18	Develop one's own knowledge and practice
	Tutorials and Portfolio Building
	First Aid
DN20	Provide chairside support during prosthetic dental treatment
DN21	Provide chairside support during endodontic treatment
DN22	Provide chairside support during the extraction of teeth and minor oral surgery
